QuickBooks Point of Sale 8.0 System Requirements

Minimum System Requirements

  • At least a 1.8GHz processor
  • At least 256MB of RAM (512 MB if running Windows Vista) for a single user
  • At least 512MB of RAM (1 GB if running Windows Vista) for multiple, concurrent users.
  • 1 GB of disk space (additional space required for data files)

Recommended System Requirements

  • At least a 2.0 GHz processor
  • At least 512 MB of RAM (1 GB if running Windows Vista) for a single user
  • At least 1GB of RAM for multiple, concurrent users.
  • 1 GB of disk space (additional space required for data files)

Multi-User & Multi-Store Configuration

  • Multi-user (2-20 workstations in one store) is optimized for Windows Server 2003/Windows Server 2008 client-server networks, and Windows XP/Vista peer-to-peer networks.
  • In either a multi-user or multi-store configuration, each workstation concurrently running Point of Sale must have a separately purchased user license, and every copy of Point of Sale must be the same version and level.

Integration with other software (sold separately)

  • Financial software integration requires:
    • QuickBooks Pro or Premier Editions6 2006, 2007, 2008 or 2009; or,
    • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Version 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 or 9.0
  • Data import/export and Microsoft Office integration requires:
    • Microsoft® Excel 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007
    • Microsoft® Word 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007

QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service

  • Optional fee-based service, additional terms & conditions apply
  • Requires a merchant account through QuickBooks POS Merchant Service, provided by Innovative Merchant Solutions, LLC. Application approval and fees apply. 
  • Credit card reader and printer required for credit and debit transactions. PIN pad required for debit transactions. Equipment sold separately or available with QuickBooks Point of Sale Solution for retailers.
  • Internet connection or modem required

QuickBooks Point of Sale Gift Card Service

  • Optional fee-based service, additional terms & conditions apply
  • Requires a gift card account through QuickBooks POS Gift Card Service, provided by Innovative Merchant Solutions, LLC. Application approval and fees apply. 
  • Requires QuickBooks POS Gift Card Service gift cards, sold separately
  • Internet connection or modem required
  • Service is independent of QuickBooks Point of sale Merchant Service.
  • Optional card reader and receipt printer sold separately or available with QuickBooks Point of Sale Solution for retailers.

Intuit Storefront for QuickBooks POS

  • Optional fee-based service, provided by Homestead, LLC. Additional terms & conditions apply.
  • Requires a merchant service account through QuickBooks Merchant Service, provided by Innovative Merchant Solutions, LLC. Application approval and fees apply. 
  • Requires use of custom design service from Homestead, LLC.

  • Service is independent of QuickBooks Point of sale Merchant Service.

Security Software

  • Point of Sale 8.0 has been tested with the following software:

    • Symantec Norton® Internet Security Suite
    • Zone Labs' Zone Alarm Pro 5
    • Trend Micro
    • Microsoft® Office 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007
  • Note: Some configurations may require that you adjust settings in firewall and antivirus products to ensure the best possible performance with Point of Sale.
System Requirement Notes
1 Disk space requirements do not include company data files. If your company data file is very large or includes item pictures, you may need more disk space.
2 IE7 is not compatible with Windows 2000.
3 .Net 2.0 is not supported by Microsoft on Windows XP SP1
4 Point of Sale will run on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors running Vista, but is compiled as a 32-bit application. However, not every QuickBooks Point of Sale hardware device will install and operate on 64-bit operating systems. These devices include:
  • Zebra LP 2824 Tag Printer
  • Metrologic Optimus S Physical Inventory Scanner
  • Logic Controls LD-9000 Pole Display
  • Ingencio i3070 PIN Pad
  • Ingenico 6580 PIN Pad/Swipe
  • Ingenico 2100 Integrated PIN Pad/swipe
  • Ingencio 3010 debit pad

It is recommended that users contact the device manufacturers for more information about installing their Point of Sale hardware devices on 64-bit operating systems.
